THE LEACHMAN ANGUS PHILOSOPHY
At Leachman Angus our Philosophy is simple and straightforward: it’s all about the cow. The industry starts and ends with the female. It begins with fertility. We demand cows that can breed up year in and year out with as little help as possible.
Next, we focus on building cows with the right type and kind, phenotypically. They have to fit our "maternal look." The value of eye appealing cattle is still paramount. Balanced, easy fleshing, good footed , and perfect uddered are all prerequisites to be retained back in our herd.
Lastly is EPD's and genomics.
Balance is everything to us here. We have made great strides in our ability to measure cattle over the years. It's important for us to utilize these to help move the needle and match cattle to their data. Numerical progression is only measured by its real world validation.
About Us
Jess and Abby Moody and family now own and operate Leachman Angus in Big Timber, Montana. Leachman Angus is 4th — going on 5th — generation operation. Originating in Bozeman, Montana, Les Leachman started this storied program in 1974. In the last fifty years, Les, Jay, Eric and Marlo have bred some of the most prepotent sires in the industry. Now the operation sits at different scenery but the drive for perfecting the mother cow is still preeminent.
